Dear Muslim Advocates Friends and Family — As-Salaam-Alaikum,
On behalf of all us at Muslim Advocates, I want to wish you and your family a blessed and festive Eid-al-Fitr.
During Ramadan, you have heard directly from our team about our litigation and advocacy in defense of Muslim communities. I also had the pleasure of hearing from many of you directly at meetings and iftars during the month. I’ve benefited from your perspective about Muslim Advocates and the importance of our work. I am inspired by my colleagues and our community of supporters’ shared commitment to the fight for justice and social change. As we look to the future, we remain committed to the power of our common voices and collective action.
During this month, we fielded calls from incarcerated people who were denied food at appropriate times, given insufficient food, denied access to juma’a, or otherwise denied the ability to practice their faith during Ramadan. We offered assistance to as many incarcerated persons as we could—including advocating to prison officials on their behalf, connecting them with local advocates, and consulting them so we could elevate their requests and monitor prisons’ compliance. We are proud to do this work and recognize the community of allies around the country that are also responding to the unique challenges facing members of our community enduring incarceration.
As we strive for a future free from discrimination, where Muslim communities—in all of our diversity—can claim a fully empowered role in American life, we hope we can continue to count on your support.
