In honor of Earth Week 2023 this week, Governor Murphy announced a proposed investment of nearly $100 million for projects to develop or update parks and preserve open space, including a new initiative to fund construction of inclusive playgrounds for differently abled children.
“The projects recommended for funding to the independent Garden State Preservation Trust will help build and update New Jersey’s outstanding parks, recreation, and open space inventories while providing for construction of inclusive playgrounds,” said Governor Murphy. “These grants and loans will benefit numerous communities across the state by providing opportunities to engage in healthy activities, enjoy the outdoors, and spend quality family time together.”
Throughout his tenure in office, Governor Murphy has proven his commitment to building a clean and green economy that not only creates jobs but also protects our future. This new investment is just the latest in a string of efforts to reduce our state’s carbon footprint, provide a significant boost to the job market by creating new opportunities in emerging industries, and stimulate green economic growth. The Murphy administration has also: - Reentered the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and rejoined a comprehensive and collaborative multi-state partnership to curb the carbon emissions that contribute to climate change.
- Set a goal of achieving a 100% clean energy economy by 2035.
-
Invested heavily in electric vehicle infrastructure and getting more EVs on the road through incentive programs.
- Made New Jersey the first state to put climate education into our K-12 teaching curriculum to prepare our kids for the green jobs of the future.
-
Put in place new policies to expand solar, making the leap to solar power more accessible for lower-to-middle-class families.

This week President Biden signed an executive order that includes more than 50 directives to nearly every cabinet-level agency to expand access to affordable, high-quality care, and provide support for care workers and family caregivers. His Executive Order includes actions that will:
-
Make child care and long-term care more accessible and affordable for families, including military families.
- Improve access to home-based care for veterans who require support with activities of daily living, like bathing and getting dressed, by giving them more decision-making power over who delivers that care and when.
-
Take steps to enhance job quality and boost pay for long-term care workers and early educators.
- Advance domestic workers rights by publishing a sample employment agreement so domestic child care and long-term care workers and their employers can ensure both parties better understand their rights and responsibilities.
President Biden and the Biden administration have remained committed to promoting fair wages, safe working conditions, and affordable healthcare, which are essential for the well-being of millions of the Americans who work tirelessly to care for others. By recognizing the value and dignity of this essential workforce, we will not only helping to improve their lives but also strengthens our nation's social fabric. — Chairman LeRoy J. Jones, Jr.
