The Do No Harm Act has been reintroduced in the House of Representatives and the Senate for the 118th Congress. We have seen what this Supreme Court does with cases involving 'religious freedom." Now more than ever, we need Congress to pass this bill, but we need your help for that. Please go to our Action Alert and ask your representatives to cosponsor this important legislation.
The Do No Harm Act would amend and clarify the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) of 1993 to ensure that religion is not used as a license to discriminate against, or deprive others of, their civil rights. The House version of the bill has been reintroduced by Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA-03) and the Senate version by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ).
The Do No Harm Act addresses the damage caused by the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision which greatly expanded RFRA and granted corporations unprecedented authority to force a religious agenda on employees. This specific case opened the door for virtually any religiously affiliated business to use religious privilege as a get-out-of-jail-free card for violating a law it happens to disagree with.
Religious privilege will continue to erode progress on civil rights until Congress draws a line in the sand. The Do No Harm Act is one of our priorities. Please ask your representatives to support this bill with our Action Alert.
