In a truly deplorable move, Iowa’s new Republican AG Brenna Bird just put a hold on a longstanding office practice of covering costs associated with rape victims’ emergency contraception and, in rare cases, abortions.

Under former Iowa Dem AG Tom Miller, the state covered the cost of Plan B and other treatments for assault victims through a victim compensation fund that the Iowa Attorney’s General Office supervises. The last thing the victim of a violent crime should have to worry about is their medical treatment or unwanted pregnancies, but Republicans have chosen to put partisan politics over public health and safety.

But because Republicans are determined to control the bodies of pregnant women and patients, GOP AG Bird has now halted this practice. Friend, this is exactly why electing Dem AGs is so important — can you sign the petition if you’re against this anti-abortion move that places partisan politics over victims of violent crime?
