The global COVID-19 pandemic had a disastrous impact on our national health, economy and society. Three years later, we have reached a phase where the virus is much more manageable, yet there are still many unanswered questions surrounding its origins. Americans deserve answers. That’s why I supported the COVID Origins Act, a bipartisan bill, which requires the Director of National Intelligence to declassify all intelligence surrounding the origins of COVID-19.

I’m grateful for the wide bipartisan support for this legislation and that President Biden signed it into law. It’s a critical first step toward holding China accountable for its role in this global crisis. Being open and transparent about the pandemic’s origins and holding those responsible for its spread accountable will help us manage and prevent pandemics in the future.
