Happy $5 Friday once again, John!
It’s Michael Haley here and, if you have been keeping up with my Friday messages, you can see I really do have a story for everything.
Today, I thought we would take it back to the start of Nikki’s journey. I’m not talking about the beginning of Nikki’s presidential run, I’m going back almost two decades to 2004, when we found ourselves preparing for Nikki to run her very first race.
It all started when she went back to work at her family’s store after gaining some experience in the corporate world. Little did we know that career switch would change everything.
One day Nikki was quite fed up when she saw how hard it was to make a dollar and how easy it was for the government to take it away. After voicing those frustrations to her mom, her mom told her, “Don’t complain. Do something about it.”
Nikki was barely 30 years old, and we had two little kids at home, but we ultimately made the decision to heed her mom’s advice and do something about it.
When I say we had no idea what we were getting into, I mean truly no idea.
To give you more context, Nikki’s first race was against a 30-year incumbent. Her opponent was the longest serving Republican in the state legislature. Not only that, but he was related to half the district! And the half that wasn’t a part of his family was a part of another old South Carolina family that traced their roots to the state back to the 1700s. When Nikki realized this, she turned to me and asked, “What have I done?” Well, what she had done was take on the political establishment so that she could make an important difference in the lives of South Carolinians.
When Nikki started to tell people that she was running, many underestimated her. Some looked at her like they felt sorry for her. Others suggested she set her sights too high. Consultants told Nikki she didn’t have a chance.
It wasn’t going to be easy, but Nikki knew it was worth the fight. So, Nikki did what she does best – she outworked everyone.
Nikki worked around the clock talking with voters, even if that meant handing out donuts in the carpool lanes at school. Nikki and I would drive the car around from neighborhood to neighborhood with the kids and a box of Krispy Kreme’s in the back seat. She’d go up and knock on doors, introduce herself, and ask for their vote. There wasn’t a day in that campaign she wasn’t knocking on doors, talking with voters, or answering phone calls. She listened to voters, became their voice and vowed to make things better.
Meanwhile, her opponent spent the majority of his time and resources running a smear campaign against Nikki. She remained unphased with her eyes on the prize. If anything, being underestimated only fueled her competitive spirit and pushed her to work that much harder.
Those countless hours started to pay off and Nikki’s positive message became louder than her opponent’s attacks. Despite all odds against her, she beat the 30-year incumbent in a runoff, and life for South Carolina (and our family) was forever changed.
Even the State House wasn’t prepared for Nikki and the plans she was ready to set in motion – but that’s a story for another time!
Now, I’m not saying that Nikki has a secret to never losing a race or beating an incumbent. What I am saying is Nikki will always outwork everyone around her and doesn’t stop until she accomplishes what she sets out to do.
Whether it’s campaigning for her place at the State House or the White House, Nikki is no stranger to the palace intrigue and ugliness that can come with elections, but I think America is ready for something different.
If you are ready for a NEW generation of leadership to restore the American Dream that made Nikki’s success possible and get our country back on track, join the team and give $5 on this Friday!
These small dollar donations are what allows Nikki to reach voters on the ground and online. Don’t discount the power of a $5 donation – when every grassroots supporter shows up, Nikki’s movement is THAT much stronger.
Thank you for allowing me a space to share these stories and for coming back week after week with your support. It means the world to our family and Nikki’s entire team.
Until next week!
Michael Haley

Nikki Haley is the daughter of Indian immigrants, a proud military wife, and the mom of two amazing children. She’s served as governor of the great state of South Carolina and as America’s ambassador to the United Nations…and she’s a grateful citizen who knows our best days are yet to come, if we unite and fight to save our country.
Nikki Haley is running for President because our country is on a path of doubt, division, and self-destruction, and we need a leader who has proven time and again that she can rise to the occasion, offer solutions, and focus on serving the people.
In order to build momentum and get Nikki’s message out, we need you on her side. Will you join Nikki’s team and pitch in a donation today?
Thank you in advance for your support.
Thank you,
Team Haley |
