Eid ul-Shukr, Eid ul-Fitr.

I find myself reflecting on the gratitude and thankfulness that observing the holy month of Ramadan inspires within us. I am grateful for the opportunities we have had to share our beautiful faith, traditions and cultures with the wider British public. 

Making history, breaking barriers

In the world of sports, we were heartened to see the Premier League and English Football Association provide short breaks and opportunities for Muslim players to break their fast.

From the first-ever Ramadan lights display in London, to the wonderful iftar events held in mosques across the UK, we have shared and kindness of this month.

I commend the Ramadan Tent Project for their historic open iftars in landmark buildings and locations, bringing diverse communities together, fostering understanding and friendship.

Each of these engagements has increased the consciousness, understanding of our faith and diverse cultures across British society. 

Thanks to our charities and volunteers

I thank the tireless work of volunteers behind the scenes, cooking for hundreds of people every night ensuring the smooth running of prayers and activities.

Muslims continue in their outpouring of generosity, with Muslim charities responding to the causes that matter the most to us. I know how hard they work and how much they do in this blessed month.

The MCB leadership team had the extraordinary privilege of attending more community iftars than ever before.

Whilst the travel comes with much sacrifice of time with family, doing so has been a source of great renewal and strength for us all.
Overcoming our challenges

British Muslims continue to face many challenges, including Islamophobia in all its forms and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. Despite this, our Ramadan has been filled with abundance and hope.

We should continue to pray for all those facing injustice around the world. From those impacted by natural disasters including the deadly earthquake in Türkiye and Syria, and the flooding in Pakistan before it, to all those enduring through oppression, injustice and conflict, be it in Palestine, Sudan, Syria, China, Myanmar and more.

Do reach out to those closer to home who may also need a helping hand.

May Allah accept our fasting, prayers and charity. May He shower us in blessings and grant us much goodness, ameen.
