Honey cow sleeping in a pasture with text, Every adoption creates new beginnings

Dear John,

No mother or child should have to endure the heartache of losing their baby or parent for someone’s profit.

However, in a food system where motherhood is commodified, this happens daily. Mothers and children are continuously exploited, separated, and slaughtered for human consumption.

At Farm Sanctuary, the harm stops, and the healing begins.

Honey cow (above) and her adoptive son Lux were raised on a farm for dairy and meat. Honey likely endured her children being taken away and slaughtered. After surviving such immense loss, Lux helped her heal. When the farmer had a change of heart, we were provided with the rare opportunity to rescue the bonded family and give them the promise of sanctuary — a safe space for life.

This Mother’s Day, give a gift that honors all families and creates new beginnings like theirs.

With a one-time, $35 gift, you can symbolically adopt Bear sheep, Hal goat, or Ashburn hen, or Honey cow and her son Lux. These symbolic adoptions support our rescued animals’ care and our work to protect all farm animal families.

In gratitude, we’ll send you a digital adoption certificate featuring your new friend(s). Print this card for yourself or email it to someone you love. It’s a great way to honor the loving, protective, and supportive individuals in your life — human and animal alike.

Meet the mothers and children you can adopt this Mother’s Day!

Bear sheep in the trees

Bear

Bear was abandoned with her umbilical cord still attached. Separated from her mother within her first moments of life, then left completely alone to suffer. Thankfully, Bear was discovered by a good samaritan, whose actions led the wee lamb to us! Residing at our California sanctuary, Bear loves to greet everyone and often comes up to ask for a back scratch.

ADOPT HER
Hal goat outside a red barn

Hal

Hal was confiscated from a California slaughterhouse along with his mother Annie, and twin brother Goodall. Though the family lived together peacefully for many years at our New York sanctuary, Annie and Goodall have since passed away. Hal remains a mellow, independent goat who loves getting treats from caregivers.

ADOPT HIM
Ashburn hen

Ashburn

Ashburn was welcomed to our California sanctuary after a factory egg farm shut down. She was forced to lay eggs and continually deprived of the chance to be a mom. With individualized care, Ashburn has blossomed into a bright and curious hen who lives on her terms.

ADOPT HER

Honey and Lux

We rarely get the chance to rescue farm animal families intact — but in the case of Honey and Lux, one farmer’s change of heart allowed this family to stay together for life. Residing at our New York sanctuary, the duo spends their days grooming each other — an essential bonding activity that so many cows are denied.

ADOPT THEM

Thank you for helping us fulfill the promise of sanctuary. Together, we can help open hearts to farm animals’ loving bonds and allow more families to grow old — together.

Love,

Farm Sanctuary
