This Autism Acceptance Month, we’re encouraging our community to write an opinion editorial (also known as an op-ed) for their local news! Op-eds [[link removed]] are a way to ask people to do something, and show them why they should take action, using evidence. They are a powerful way to make your voice heard, and let people know what issues matter to our community.
We are asking out community to make their voices heard, and spread the word about:
Andre’s Law [[link removed]] , which would prevent New York from sending more people to the Judge Rotenberg Center
The HCBS Settings Rule [[link removed]] , and why the protections it provides people receiving home and community-based services matter. In addition to our new resources, we also have a guide with talking points [[link removed]] about the Rule so you can make your op-ed as relevant and effective as possible.
If you haven’t written an op-ed before, check out the Op-ed Project [[link removed]] to learn more, including how to decide where to pitch pieces. You can also learn more about writing op-eds in ASAN’s toolkit “ Sharing Your Story for a Political Purpose. [[link removed]] ”
Please share this with anyone you think would be interested in this project, and to your social media feeds.
