Trump says a lot of bonkers things, so you’re forgiven if you missed this one. In a video to supporters the other day, he said something that everyone needs to pay attention to:
“I will require every federal employee to pass a new civil service test demonstrating an understanding of our constitutional, limited government...”

That alone might sound benign. But he went on to make it clear he’s asking every single federal employee to take a loyalty test for his brand of conservative politics. The goal, as he put it, is to “put unelected bureaucrats back in their place.”

In other words, he wants an America where everyone who works for the government must vow that they agree with the President or risk losing their job. It’s the kind of policy that might seem commonplace in Russia — but it’s the polar opposite of what a free country looks like.

And you know what? I’m glad Donald Trump is willing to say that stuff out loud, with the cameras rolling. He’s making it clear as day: If he’s president again, he’ll make all the rules. And he’ll fire anyone who disagrees with him. He’s telling it to our faces what kind of future he plans for us, if we let him get back in power. He’s testing us all right… 2024 is shaping up to be a fight for democracy as we know it. Whether the Republicans nominate Trump or some other MAGA wannabe, they will trample our nation’s ideals for the sake of power.
