Team,
For too long, foreign interests have been using loopholes to buy online ads to influence American elections. This is unacceptable.
Americans have the right to know who is paying for the political ads they’re seeing. Derek is leading the effort in Congress to bring transparency and accountability to online political ads, and this month, he reintroduced the bipartisan Honest Ads Act in the House!
This crucial bill would make it harder for foreign actors to use digital sources to directly attack our democracy. It would also help prevent interference in future elections and improve the transparency of online political advertisements altogether.
Foreign interests shouldn't be able to buy ads to influence our elections or our democracy. The Honest Ads Act will ensure our laws are up to date with the latest technology. Team, will you sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of this important legislation?
Already, our elections have been exposed to digital – and other – attacks from foreign actors, including the Chinese Communist Party and Russia. These foreign governments and companies are using every tool at their disposal to try and undermine America's democracy.
The Honest Ads Act would close the loopholes and update campaign advertising regulations to prevent these attacks. It would ensure online political advertisements meet the same disclaimer requirements as television, radio, and print advertisements, and it would increase transparency by making it clear to the American public who is funding online ads.
If you agree it's time for Congress to bring digital political advertising regulations into the 21st century, sign on now as a citizen co-sponsor of the bipartisan Honest Ads Act →
