Corporations were never going to save us from Fox News. Selling lies is an immensely profitable business, and Dominion just wanted a cut.

,
On Tuesday, Fox News, the 24-hour sewer of lies, settled a lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems for over $787,000,000.
Sound like a lot of money? It’s not. Fox Corporation is valued at over $17 billion. News Corp., also owned by billionaire oligarch Rupert Murdoch, is valued at another $10 billion.
For Fox News, this is nothing more than a business expense and a tax write-off. They don’t have to apologize. They won’t have to testify under oath. They don’t have to stop pushing Trump’s Big Lie. Onward they go.
The lesson from all this? A corporate lawsuit was never going to save us from Fox News.
None of this comes as a surprise to us at Common Dreams. For the corporate media—and not just Fox—it’s all about money and political control.
The only way to provide readers with news you can truly trust is through nonprofit, people-funded media that is 100% independent from corporate influence. But without support from readers, the independent journalism of Common Dreams simply cannot survive.
