On Tuesday night, I will have the honor of delivering the official Working Families Party response to this year’s State of the Union address.
The Working Families Party is a people-powered grassroots party fighting for an America that works for the many, not the few. I am proud to call them partners in this movement, and I’ve been humbled to work alongside them to uplift working families and make progress for all of our communities. This is a movement of working people — strengthened by our diversity and our differences — who are uplifting community and fighting for justice each day.
Ever since the occupant of the White House was sworn into office, he and his administration have attacked our communities with racist, xenophobic, hateful rhetoric, and even more bigoted, destructive policy. Now, more than three years later, he stands impeached by the House for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress — while engaging in further corruption and abuses that go well beyond the charges debated in the House and Senate.
This year, we must take back the White House and elect dynamic leaders up and down the ballot, but we also know that defeating Donald Trump isn’t enough. We have to both resist AND progress, in pursuit of equity and justice in all of our communities. And we do that through a movement — a multi-generational, multi-racial, powerful grassroots movement of working people.
I’m so excited to talk to you more on Tuesday night about our progressive vision for America, and the movement we are building together to get us there.
