Hi John,

Today is 4/20! While many states celebrate
legalized recreational and medicinal marijuana, today we want to recognize
the fight we have before us in ending the racist War on Drugs.

Black people are over four times more likely to be arrested and prosecuted
for marijuana possession, despite white people partaking at the same
rate.^1 And while business owners in legal states are able to enjoy the
economic benefits of legal marijuana, there are still thousands of people
who are in prison for nonviolent marijuana-related crimes.

Our communities have been historically deeply affected by the War on Drugs
— predominantly and disproportionately Black, poor, and young folks in our
own neighborhoods. And it’s clear that this political tool has been used
to propagate our deeply broken prison systems.

[ [link removed] ]If you stand with Pramila and our collective progressive movement to
build a just and equal democracy for us all, please consider chipping in
$4.20 to help us build momentum for this fight.

As the chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Pramila stood by
President Biden in his efforts to pardon people convicted of marijuana
possession in October. Pramila knows that the only way to rebuild the
communities hit hardest by this War on Drugs is by continuing to expunge
the records of nonviolent offenders, federally legalize marijuana, and
work to bring new jobs into the market to economically benefit us all.

John, it will
take all of us to end this War on Drugs, and we can start by demanding
federal legalization and decriminalization of cannabis, and make way for
transformative criminal justice reform.

[ [link removed] ]So today, let’s reaffirm our collective commitment to ending the War
on Drugs and making marijuana federally legal once and for all. If you
stand with our progressive movement, please chip in $4.20 to help us
continue our fight.

In solidarity,

Team Pramila
