Team,
It’s been 24 years since the shooting at Columbine High School rocked our community.
Coloradans have experienced unbearable pain from gun violence. Many of those students at Columbine are now parents, bearing the burden of seeing their kids impacted by gun violence at schools across America.
That has to change.
Gun violence prevention can’t just be the words we say. Our community deserves more than moments of silence followed by inaction. Americans should not have to live in fear when they go to school, grocery stores, nightclubs, or movie theaters.
Columbine, Aurora, STEM school — and now, Denver’s East High School — aren’t just names. They’re victims, survivors, and fellow neighbors. They bear the scars of America’s failure to respond. They’re why I fight so hard for gun violence prevention legislation.
Don’t be fooled by the gun lobby. We don’t have to choose between safer communities and protecting our Second Amendment rights. We must pass common-sense reforms to curb gun violence, including background checks and closing loopholes.
My priority in Congress is to work to stop the gun violence epidemic. I will always put our children, our families, and our communities first.
Standing with you,
Jason
