Nearly 60% (6 in 10 Americans) support legalizing marijuana for both
medical and recreation use according to a Pew Research Survey. That’s why
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has made legalizing marijuana a
policy priority:

The Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement (MORE) Act, one
of the first bills Jeffries introduced this session, would decriminalize
marijuana nationally and eliminate over 500,000 marijuana related arrests
every year, and reduce the deficit by nearly three billion dollars over
ten years.

65% of Americans support pardoning nonviolent offenses related to
marijuana possession and a staggering 70% support changing its schedule 1
classification, which would allow researchers to more openly study
marijuana, including its medicinal usages.

Currently, 37 states and D.C. have legalized medical marijuana and 19
states have legalized recreational usage. In the 2022 midterm elections,
Missouri, Arkansas, North and South Dakota and Maryland all voted on
legalization.
