Dear Friend,

Incarcerated. A survivor of domestic violence and rape. A victim of the Covid-19 induced economic fallout. Leesha has not traveled an easy road. But nothing has ever stopped her.

While incarcerated, she became a role model to new inmates. From vocational and college courses, hospice training, peer-to-peer education, and self-help classes, she took every opportunity to better herself. She even used her life story to help other inmates recover from abusive relationships.

After her release, Leesha worked every odd job she could find, but it wasn’t always enough to put food on the table.

After losing work due to the Covid-19 pandemic, she enrolled in the National Urban League’s local affiliate Career & Workforce Fundamentals course. It was there that she was connected to KIMCO, a company who immediately hired her as a housekeeper with a living wage, in her area, of $12 per hour.

Your gift today will support our mission to provide direct assistance to Black and Brown individuals that lack opportunity, like Leesha, all across the nation. We continue to confront the persistent challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, economic instability, and ongoing assaults on civil and human rights. However, we cannot continue this fight without YOU.

Take this important moment now to reaffirm your commitment to equality, justice, and economic freedom. Your donation will do even more than enrich the lives of Black Americans – it will help create financial stability and independence for our community members.

Sincerely,

Marc H. Morial
President and Chief Executive Officer

P.S. Did you hear this year’s State of Black America® Report Democracy in Peril: Confronting the Threat Within? This important edition raises the alarm around the explosive growth of far-right and domestic extremism and the threat it poses to our communities, our families, and our nation. It is a must read.
