We lost a brave veteran and fireman in Australia.

John,

242 brave American firefighters traveled thousands of miles to help first responders battle the bushfires in Australia. Nine of them were Montanans.

Unfortunately, we received news recently of the untimely death of Ian H. McBeth of Great Falls. McBeth, only 44 years old, was in a plane crash with two other military veterans Paul C. Hudson and Rick A. DeMorgan.

The victims and their families are in our thoughts during this extremely difficult time. They were American heroes and we thank them for a lifetime dedicated to service.

The bushfires in Australia are not an isolated incident — they are the result of the increasing effects of climate change.

We have to face the consequences of our actions. Until we take our climate crisis seriously and work towards a more carbon neutral world, we will continue to see natural disasters destroy our lives, wildlife, and entire habitats.
