New Orleans DSA - Weekly Update

Hey folks! Hope you're doing alright and looking forward to our APRIL GENERAL MEETING this Saturday 4/22 at 12pm noon! Please note! We're changing venue and the meeting will now be at PARISH HALL (2533 Columbus Street).

This month, we'll be taking up our Electoral Strategy for 2023-2025. We'll be discussing the resolution that our Electoral Working group is putting forward for our convention in June, but we need your input! What races do we want to focus on? Where can socialists win in New Orleans? What do we need to get us there?

We'll also be voting on a resolution to authorize our Voter Guide to recommend against Sheriff Hutson's controversial millage proposal that would increase taxes to pay for prison improvements.

Finally, we're excited to announce that we'll be hearing from guest speaker Travis Bost from the University of Toronto on the topics of underdevelopment, asset-stripping, and elite power in New Orleans.

We'll need to hit quorum to make the official business official, so make sure to either be there in person, online, or get a proxy in advance. Zoom participants can register here. If you can't make it, you can ask for a proxy by emailing [email protected]. Please do so before Saturday's meeting. Check in on the chapter Slack for full resolution texts as well.

There will be free food and drinks, and it should be a great discussion. Hope to see you there!
