At Texas Historical Commission sites across the state, you can step back into history. During May 7-13, tours and hands-on activities will demonstrate how Texans of the past spent their daily lives at these state historic sites.
From ornate Victorian mansions to everyday inns, frontier forts to 20th-century leaders’ homes, there’s a state historic site to fit every interest.

Experience the Battle of San Jacinto [ [link removed] ]
San Jacinto Battleground, La Porte
"This Saturday", April 22
The San Jacinto Battleground will once again hear the booming of cannons, the cracking of musket fire, and the shouts of “Remember the Alamo!” at the San Jacinto Celebration. Presented by the San Jacinto Museum and Battlefield Association [ [link removed] ] and San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site [ [link removed] ], it's a day of fun, food, history, and reenactments celebrating the 187th anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto. Reenactors dressed in period clothing will make the epic events of April 1836 come alive, and reenactments throughout the day will recreate the dramatic events that led to one of the most decisive and impactful military victories in the history of North America.

Free Webinar: Operation Vengeance [ [link removed] ]

On April 18, 1943, Operation Vengeance was set into motion. The secret mission was to shoot down the Japanese bomber transporting Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto of the Imperial Japanese Navy. This free webinar from the National Museum of the Pacific War [ [link removed] ] will revisit highlights from the 1988 Admiral Nimitz Symposium, held in Fredericksburg, which focused on Operation Vengeance. You will hear recordings from naval historian Roger Pineau and two of the P-38 pilots, John Mitchell and Rex Barber, who share their recollections of the events that resulted in the death of Admiral Yamamoto.
