John,
Already, over 85,000 people have signed our petition to Congress: Raise Taxes on the Rich & Corporations; Don't Cut Services for Working Families.
Now, we’re ramping up the urgency, sending messages directly to each member of Congress demanding they listen to the American people and act.
Click here to send a letter to your senators and representative and tell them that at a time when right-wing politicians are threatening cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, nutrition benefits, housing, and more, we should protect and improve, not cut, services by demanding the rich and corporations pay their fair share of taxes.
Hi, I’m David Kass, the new Executive Director of Americans for Tax Fairness. For more than 25 years, I’ve helped build coalitions and lead campaigns at the national and state levels from both inside and outside of government to bring about critical policy changes.
Years ago, as a Senate aid, I drafted legislation that came to be known as the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which now provides health insurance to seven million children each year. I’ve spent my career working to address inequality and I’m thrilled to join you in the fight for a more just economy where the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share of taxes―and where we use those resources to invest in and lower costs for working families.
This week, in a speech before Wall Street CEOs, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy unveiled his debt-ceiling proposal, which is a direct attack on programs for the poor, including Medicaid healthcare benefits and SNAP food benefits, in order to make permanent the expiring Trump tax cuts for the rich and corporations.[1]
In exchange, Speaker McCarthy is offering to raise the debt limit for just one year. And if he’s successful, you can be sure House Republicans will attempt to extract even more cuts next year, in the midst of a presidential campaign.
Take action today! Click here to send a message directly to your senators and representative demanding Congress raise taxes on the rich and corporations and reject cuts to services for working families.
I look forward to working by your side in our shared struggle for an economy and a tax system that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
David Kass
