At a candidate debate, one of our candidates in Colorado – who relies on a
wheelchair for mobility – was forced to CRAWL onto the stage in order to
participate because the venue wasn’t wheelchair accessible.

If he didn’t participate (re: “crawl on the stage”) he would effectively have to
FORFEIT the election.

This is appalling. But it’s an important reminder why it’s critically important
to elevate the voices of Americans living with disabilities – ESPECIALLY into
positions of power!

[ [link removed] ]Chris Hinds – a computer scientist and public servant running for Denver City
Council – is on the ballot in just 6 weeks and this race is expected to be
decided by a couple hundred votes: Can you join us in making a donation to his

Friends – It’s important to remember that the Americans with
Disabilities Act was only signed into law 30 years ago. And many experts
and advocates agree it doesn’t go far enough – demonstrated in the
incident above – to make society accessible for the more than 54 million
Americans living with a disability.

But we need to do more than just listen and elevate the voices of
Americans with disabilities – It’s critical they are at the decision
making table able to create and guide policies at ALL levels of
government.

Looking at the data from the U.S. Census Bureau, we know that Americans
with disabilities are vastly underrepresented in elected office at the
Federal, State, and local levels.

Chris has a background in computer science who has spent his adult life
advocating to make Denver a more accessible city and serves as the FIRST
and only official in the history of Denver who uses a wheelchair for
mobility.
