Dear Friend,
It’s been one year since we released the MI Healthy Climate Plan and we've already gotten big things done to deliver on its goal. The MI Healthy Climate Plan proposes actions for us to take to face climate change head-on while lowering costs for Michiganders, creating jobs, producing more clean energy in Michigan, and protecting our air and water along the way.
I made sure that Michigan would make the most out of incoming federal resources from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act by signing executive directives to make us more competitive and lower the cost of doing business in our state. We are now creating thousands of manufacturing jobs in key industries and bringing supply chains of cars, chips, and clean energy home to Michigan.
With our momentum, Michigan will define the future of clean energy and manufacturing. Together, we will build a Michigan where we:
- Generate 60% of our energy from reliable, renewable sources by 2030.
- Build a charging network to support 2 million electric vehicles on the road.
- Address environmental injustices and ensure equitable access to new economic opportunities.
-
Protect our land and lakes – both Great and small.
In my recent budget proposal, I proposed $1 billion in investments that will make Michigan the leader in the future of clean energy and climate action by:
- Lowering the cost of electric vehicles, building more chargers, and putting electric school buses on the road.
- Incentivizing clean manufacturing and improving air quality in impacted communities.
-
Creating more tuition-free paths for people to get good-paying energy and manufacturing jobs.
For these reasons and many more, I am a climate optimist. I know we can take action on climate that will make a real difference in people’s lives. Let’s keep working together to leave a better world for generations to come.
