Help make Nottingham a greener city this Earth Day

earth day

Every year on the 22nd of April, people around the world come together to progress climate action and celebrate Earth Day. As a city aiming to be the first in the UK to become carbon neutral, we?re looking to everyone to do their bit and you could make Earth Day on Saturday the time to make a start.

This year?s Earth Day theme is ?Invest In Our Planet? which highlights the importance of dedicating our time, resources and energy to solving climate and environmental issues. When we invest in our planet, we are supporting healthy and happy communities worldwide. Earth Day reminds us that our actions at a local level can collectively make a difference.

In Nottingham, we will be lighting up the Council House green on Earth Day to show our commitment to investing in the city to tackle climate change.

Government emergency alerts tested on mobiles this Sunday

emergency alert

The UK government?s new Emergency Alerts system is live and will enable people to be contacted via their mobile phone when lives are in danger. It will be used to warn you in the event of emergencies, such as severe flooding. The service will be tested nationally this Sunday, 23 April between 3-3.30pm.

Emergency Alerts are sent to compatible mobile phones within an area of risk. They don?t track your location, need your phone number, or collect personal data, and only the emergency services can send them. You can check an alert is genuine at www.gov.uk/alerts [ [link removed] ]. An Emergency Alert is a loud, siren-like sound with a message on your screen.
