***** The St. Louis Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) office is continuing their Mondays with Marina and Marvis. Monday, April 24 they will be joined by Tracie DeFreitas, the director of Training Services and Outreach with the Job Accommodation Network (JAN). They will be talking about Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), disability inclusion, and how to navigate the interactive accommodation process with employees with disabilities. This is a free webinar. To register go to their website. ***** The Job Accommodation Network (JAN) is a free service that provides information about accommodations employers have made for their employees with disabilities. If you need information on an accommodation that might work for an employee with a disability, JAN is a good place to start if the employee doesn't have any ideas about what kind of accommodation might work. When you call or go to their website (askjan.org) you need to know what the employee needs to do and what their limitation is. For example, the employee may have only one hand and needs to input information into a computer, but the keyboard they have doesn't work well for them. JAN will have lots of options. They will give you the name of the technologies other employers have purchased, the cost, how well the technology worked for their employee and the name and phone number for the employer so you can call them to talk about the accommodation and how well it worked. JAN is also an excellent resource for information about the ADA and things you need to know as an employer or supervisor or employee with a disability. The information below is an announcement about their latest newsletter. The Spring edition of the JAN Newsletter focuses on policies and procedures for processing ADA accommodation requests. As more employers return employees to the workplace, employees with disabilities are asking for job accommodations such as ongoing telework, the use of service or emotional support animals in the workplace, and accommodations to prevent exposure to COVID and other contagions. To help ensure accommodation requests are processed effectively, some employers are reviewing and updating their ADA policies and procedures. JAN has resources to help, including sample forms, practical tips for creating policies, and model procedures. Read the Spring 2023 edition of the JAN Newsletter. If you have any questions or comments, or if there is a topic you would like us to cover, please contact us. The JAN Staff ***** The Southeast ADA Center's April newsletter is now available on their website. This like all of the ADA Centers' newsletters are full of information and links to websites that provide relevant information about the ADA.
