The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is helping to spread the word about a $400 discount on Building Operator Certification courses available through the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance [ [link removed] ] (MEEA).
The Building Operator Certification [ [link removed] ]® (BOC) Program is a nationally recognized training and certification program focusing on energy-efficient building operations and preventive maintenance. MEEA has successfully administered more than 300 BOC training series, certifying over 5,000 building operators in the Midwest since 2003. BOC training is intended for building operators with two or more years of experience in operation and maintenance, who wish to broaden their knowledge of the total building system. Typical participants include building engineers, maintenance staff, operation technicians, electricians, and others in the facility operations and maintenance field. The curriculum focuses on energy-using equipment and systems, such as those typically found in a building 50,000 square feet or larger.
The BOC curriculum includes about 70 hours of classroom time and project work related to building systems, indoor environmental quality, and common opportunities for operational improvements. The training provides students with the background and perspective needed to implement low-cost and no-cost solutions that reduce energy use, increase equipment durability, and improve air quality and comfort.
Through an EGLE grant, tuition will be reduced by $400 for the first 20 public and non-profit building operators who register for a BOC Level I or Level II training. The $400 discount may be combined with other discounts, such as partial utility rebates. Training sessions are already scheduled for 2023, with more to be scheduled in 2024. Trainings are held online, in 3-hour sessions, twice a week. See registration links below.
