Dear John xxxxxx,

For the first time since 1996, the Democratic National Convention is set to take place in Chicago! Reports show that the 2024 convention is expected to provide a well-needed $150 million boost to our economy. The eyes of the world will be watching, and I cannot wait to show off our magnificent city.

In the richest country in the world at the richest time in history, no one should be denied access to health care simply because of their immigration status — and especially those who have known no other home but the United States. The Biden administration just announced that they will grant eligibility for health care coverage to DACA recipients. This is fantastic news! I have been fighting for this issue for a long time. Next stop: a pathway to citizenship!

The statistics speak for themselves. Over the last two decades, more school-aged kids have died from guns than on-duty police officers and active-duty military combined. Last Wednesday, I joined members of the McHenry County Chapter of Moms Demand Action, many of whom are educators or former educators, to discuss what steps we can take to protect our communities. Tragically, after the meeting, I got home and learned of a shooting in Evanston in which an 18-year-old was killed, and two 15-year-olds were injured. We need commonsense gun laws now.

If you are in my district and need help navigating the Social Security Administration, looking into an immigration case, obtaining a passport, or need assistance with the IRS, we are here to help. Head to my website for further assistance or give us a call at (773) 506-7100.

Take care of yourselves,

Schakowsky Visits Amundsen High School

When I speak with young people, I do not ask them what they want to be when they grow up. I ask them what they want to do now to make a difference. It was so great to visit Amundsen High School and speak with so many engaged students.

Curious what the students were most concerned about?

  • Protecting our climate
  • Putting an end to the gun violence epidemic
  • Enshrining the right to bodily autonomy
Future generations are counting on us.

Beware of Scams and Frauds

Image

This is just a friendly reminder to please report anything you think may be a fraud, scam, or bad business practice.

Reporting Medicare Fraud and Abuse

Medicare fraud and abuse can happen anywhere, and usually results in higher health care costs and taxes for everyone. One of the best ways to detect this type of fraud is to read your Medicare Summary Notice (MSN) or your insurance’s Explanation of Benefits (EOB). If you find a claim or charge for something that you did not receive, is different than what you received, or was not medically necessary, this may be a sign of potential fraud. Please call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) if you think you have experienced fraud.

Reporting Mail Fraud and Postal Fraud

If you are a victim of a stolen, forged, or altered check, you can report this to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service by filling out and submitting the Mail Fraud Complaint Form. You may also call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service hotline at 1-800-372-8347 to file a complaint about suspected mail fraud.

Reporting General Frauds, Scams, and Bad Business Practices

For ideas about what you might report to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), check out consumer.ftc.gov for more information and advice.

We are facing a gun violence epidemic. Far too many lives are being stolen from us every single day. This problem is not going to solve itself. I am so grateful for all the activists stepping up in our community, and across the nation. Republicans in Congress must join us to save lives.
