Dear John,
The U.S. Senate is expected to take a crucial pro-life vote Wednesday, and your senators need to hear from you!
You may remember an email we sent you in October of last year, asking you to comment on an interim final rule that the Biden Administration had already begun implementing which allowed the Department of Veterans Affairs to counsel in favor of and provide abortions. Well, despite all your comments, the Biden Administration has continued to implement this rule in violation of federal law in place since 1992.
Thankfully, Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has introduced S.J. Res. 10, a disapproval resolution to overturn this harmful rule. This resolution draws from authority granted to Congress in the Congressional Review Act. If passed, it will not only stop the Biden Administration in its tracks, but it will prevent future administrations from implementing the same rule.
Will you send a message to your senators now and tell them to support Sen. Tuberville's resolution? Otherwise, the Biden Administration will be able to continue its unilateral rulemaking unchecked.
The interim final rule clearly states that the VA will amend its regulations by removing the exclusion for abortion counseling and permitting abortions "when the health of the pregnancy beneficiary would be endangered if the pregnancy were carried to term." Because it does not define the word "health," this policy opens the door for the VA to perform abortions for nearly any reason.
This rule will ultimately result in a significant increase in the number of abortions that the VA performs, which Biden's under-secretary of Health, Dr. Shereef Elnahal, has readily acknowledged. In fact, she said that she expects about 1,000 women a year to receive abortions from the VA under this policy--a 100-fold increase to the number of current cases in which the Department currently separates the child and her mother in order to save the life of the mother. (These are deemed "abortions" by the VA, but as numerous physicians have stated the purposeful killing of an unborn child is never necessary to save the life of the mother). If the VA only intended to perform abortions when a woman's life is threatened or the pregnancy resulted from rape or incest, it strains credulity to believe that projected abortions being performed by the VA would increase so much.
The Biden Administration must not be allowed to promote abortion across our country through VA facilities in violation of federal law.
Tell your senators to support Sen. Tuberville's S.J Res. 10 to protect the unborn and hold the Biden Administration accountable for its lawlessness!
Sincerely,
