The sheriff’s office is stealing money from Philadelphians who need it most You are receiving this email as one of Alexandra’s most engaged followers. Dear John, Alexandra has just blown the lid off a massive, decades-long scheme by the Philadelphia Sheriff’s office to steal money from everyday Philadelphians. This same type of theft is occurring in cities across America, and it will take a strong leader to put a stop to it. That’s why Alexandra needs your help: As Philly’s next City Controller, she can put an end to the Sheriff’s theft in Philadelphia and send a clear signal to Sheriffs' offices everywhere that they can’t get away with stealing our money. Can you rush a donation to Alexandra right now to help her take a stand against corruption? Donate now Here’s what is happening in Philadelphia and other cities across the country… When a Philadelphian's house is seized because of tax debt or a mortgage foreclosure, the Sheriff’s Office sells the house. And if the house sells for more than the resident owes, the resident is entitled to the excess proceeds. But the Sheriff’s Office hasn’t been returning those excess proceeds to their rightful owners. It’s just been stealing the money instead, using it to line their pockets. For everyday Philadelphians living and dying in poverty, the excess proceeds from a Sheriff’s sale would change their lives. They’ve already lost their homes—how people build generational wealth—and now they’re being robbed by the very people who are supposed to be protecting them. This has been going on for years, and it’s not a secret. But no one has done anything to stop it. We need someone who’s willing to stand up to the Sheriff and stop this theft. And Alexandra is the person to do it. She will make sure that the excess proceeds from every Sheriff’s sale are returned to the people they belong to—the people whose houses were taken and sold by the Sheriff. And she will make it easy for every Philadelphian to learn whether they are owed money from a Sheriff’s sale using an online search tool. To prove it, our team has created a demo version of the search tool that you can use right now to see how it will work. To try it out, just click here. Every city needs someone like Alexandra to stand up to this sort of government theft. When she’s elected as City Controller, she will be the model that every city can follow to hold Sheriff’s offices accountable for what they do with Sheriff sale proceeds. It’s less than a month from the election, and Alexandra needs your support today to make sure every Philadelphian knows what’s at stake—literally, their own livelihoods that have been stolen from them. Can you contribute today to help her spread that message? Contribute now With your help, Alexandra will take the lead in putting a stop to governmental corruption whenever and wherever it happens.
