As early as midnight tonight, a decision may be announced in the
ongoing legal battle between the F.D.A. and the religious-affiliated
group Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine.

Last week, a Trump-appointed judge struck down the F.D.A.'s approval
of mifepristone: one of two drugs used in the most commonly
prescribed method of medication abortions.

Since then, the Biden administration brought forward an emergency
request to the Supreme Court for a temporary pause on the order. That
"pause" expires tonight at midnight. 

Some important things to know:

1.) The group serving as the face of the suit, Alliance for
Hippocratic Medicine, is affiliated with a religious rightwing group,
Alliance for Defending Freedom. This group prides itself on
"...guaranteeing the right to life from conception to natural death."

2.) The judge involved in this case, Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, was
previously involved with another religious group that also looks for
legal loopholes and challenges to abortion access.

 

This isn't about protecting women. It is about moving the goalpost on
abortion and restricting access to safe and legal abortions in any
way possible. But this won't just affect people seeking the option to
terminate a pregnancy, this drug is also prescribed to women to help
with the process of a miscarriage.

It is imperative that we spread the word on this developing story and
let people know that restricting access to care harms women, period.
