John,
Time is running out before the United States defaults on our bond payments, potentially bringing down the whole economy.
How do we stop this calamity? It’s simple: Congress needs to pass a one-line bill allowing the Treasury Department to issue more bonds. Instead, though, Republican Speaker Kevin McCarthy and his caucus of MAGA extremists have refused to pass a bill to protect us from default unless Democrats agree to certain “concessions.” It’s a hostage crisis.
What concessions does Kevin want? Let’s look:

McCarthy and his crew didn’t have any problem with the deficit during the Trump administration, when the borrowing limit increased three times without concessions from anyone. He didn’t have a problem passing Trump’s tax giveaway to millionaires and corporations, even as it added $2 trillion to the deficit.
Republicans have taken the debt ceiling hostage because they don’t want the government to do anything that doesn’t enrich their Wall Street donors.
Sign now: Congress must raise the debt ceiling immediately, without negotiations, and never allow hostage-taking again!
McCarthy and his fellow MAGA extremists are simply trying to pass extreme policy that they could never get the votes for in regular order. They’re attacking some of the most popular government programs―Social Security, Medicare, parts of the Inflation Reduction Act that lower drug prices, and food assistance.
There’s no reason for the debt limit to exist. Republicans over the past decade have shown that they can’t be trusted to do what’s right for the country when a Democrat is in the White House, so we need to take away the economic self-destruct button.
Sign now: Raise the debt ceiling now and never let Congress hold it hostage again!
Thanks,
