John --

Right now, coasts near the US-Mexico border are impacted with severe pollution as a result of raw sewage runoff from Tijuana. This has led to beach closures and it’s an issue that environmentalists and business leaders have been trying to fix for decades.

The good news is we just took a major step forward in addressing this crisis.

After much advocacy, the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) will include a $300 million appropriation for the Border Water Infrastructure Program (BWIP) which will be used to clean up the sewage in the Tijuana River Valley. This appropriation mirrors legislation that I introduced earlier this year in the Border Water Infrastructure Improvement Act.

Please take a moment to watch this press conference where I discuss my role in securing these funds, and how crucial a win this is for our community.
