We hope you’re having a great Autism Acceptance Month! Acceptance is an action, and we’re here to help you take that action [[link removed]] every day, even when Autism Acceptance Month is over. Whether that’s through accessible resources [[link removed]] so everyone can understand information about issues that affect their lives, or action alerts [[link removed]] to provide key information and scripts to use when speaking to people in power, we strive to equip our community with the tools needed to realize the full potential of self-advocacy, our community, and our rights as autistic people. One of the most fundamental rights, and one close to the heart of so much of our work, is the right to live in the community. 2023 has already seen changes to how we access that right, and while change is hard, it can bring good things! Last month, the Home- and Community-Based Services Settings Rule went into effect. Many states now have Corrective Action Plans, which lay out how they plan to come into compliance with the Settings Rule.
This was a big change, so we wanted to make sure everyone understood it! We released new resources and videos [[link removed]] , plus updates to other parts of our “This Rule Rules!” toolkit [[link removed]] on the HCBS Settings Rule. We also did a webinar, which you can check out here! [[link removed]] The new resources walk you through what your rights are and how to access them.
These new resources, and our other advocacy work, are all made possible by the ASAN community, including the support of our members. Signing up for an ASAN membership is easy, quick, and comes with options for a variety of budgets. Members also get fun perks like exclusive membership newsletter and merchandise as a thank you for their support! Interested in becoming a member? Check it out here! [[link removed]]
