Hi John xxxxxx,
The Buffalo Common Council represents nine council districts – with nine council members representing the people of Buffalo...
We’re writing to you today because 100% of those members are men.
Yes, you read that right. There is not even one woman representing Buffalo on the Common Council – and it shows. In the 14207 zip code, 52% of children live below the poverty line. Many families, especially those with women as the head of the household, are struggling with low-income wages, unsafe housing, and unaffordable childcare.
In the spirit of shattering glass ceilings and ensuring women are always in the rooms where decisions are being made, Her Bold Move is proud to announce our endorsement of Eve Shippens as she works to become the first woman in history to represent the North District on the Buffalo Common Council.
Eve is a mother, educator, and community leader. As a councilwoman, her priorities are improving Buffalo's quality of life with increased access to city services, neighborhood stabilization, and anti-poverty initiatives. Will you contribute $20.23 right now to help us support Eve ahead of her tough race against an anti-choice incumbent in June? |

Eve became a Buffalo Public Schools teacher in 2001. She currently serves as the co-chair of the Buffalo Parent Teacher Organization, a delegate for New York State United Teachers, and on the Executive Committee of the Buffalo Teacher Federation. As a parent, teacher, and resident of the 14207 zip code, Eve has seen and felt the impact of many of the issues her neighbors face, including poverty, domestic violence, supporting loved ones through addiction and mental health struggles, and housing instability. For nearly a decade, she has worked at a local and state level for better public education, public transit, workers’ rights, housing stability, racial and social justice, and mutual aid.
Currently, Eve’s district is represented by Joe Golombek Jr., the anti-choice incumbent who has been holding this seat for 24 years.
He has been in office since 1999, and in that time, he has become entrenched in his base of conservatives, Republicans, and right-leaning Democrats. But times have changed. The district has become more diverse, and more ready for new leadership.
Now, in Buffalo’s North District, women outnumber male voters. Eve has a real opportunity to tap into that voting bloc and defeat her opponent. It’s been too long since there was a woman on the Common Council – and we can’t stomach the thought of yet another room of all-male elected representatives making decisions about WOMEN’S lives and WOMEN’S bodies.
Eve’s election is coming up FAST on June 27. Help us get her elected so the women of Buffalo can finally have representation on their Common Council. Can you rush in $20.23 toward Eve’s campaign immediately? →
In solidarity,
Colleen Davis
