What is the price of free speech on campus?

$20,307.48

That’s how much we spent on added security for tonight’s debate at the University of Pittsburgh on transgenderism.

Threats of protest, cancelation, and even worse forced us to spend an extra $20,307.48 on twenty-eight police officers, private security for the speakers, and bodyguards for ISI staff in attendance.

That's the price you must pay today to ask a very simple question—should transgenderism be regulated by law?

A question that is far from settled.

When we talk to our students, we ask them what major topics interest them. One of the issues they raise again and again is transgenderism.

Questions about sexual identity cut to the very core of what it means to be an ensouled person. Are we created male and female—or do we have the freedom to pick our gender and define reality for ourselves?

The protestors and the media have argued that transgenderism is settled and that this debate is hateful. That is false. This is a debate our students requested. And one that truth and free speech demand.

As Americans, we have the right to free speech. But campus protestors have effectively removed that right from conservatives when they drive up the cost to speak.

We’re not backing down.

Tonight, Michael Knowles from the Daily Wire and Brad Palumbo from BASEDPolitics will debate whether the US government should regulate transgenderism.
