MAGA House Republicans passed legislation dubbed the “Polluters Over People Act,” which would gut environmental protections so corporate polluters can profit from further poisoning our air and water.
While the full package won’t pass the Senate, Democratic leaders in Congress are signaling interest in a core piece of the bill—another version of coal baron Joe Manchin’s Dirty Deal, which we defeated last year. It was written by the fossil fuel industry to fast-track dangerous oil and gas projects like pipelines while taking away power from local communities to fight these projects.

In the past few weeks we:

Re-introduced the Fossil Free Finance Act to require the Federal Reserve to finally address the climate crisis and cut off the trillions of dollars that Big Banks spend on fossil fuel projects.

Won an extension for public input into a local toxic waste facility, where truckloads of hazardous materials from East Palestine, Ohio were disposed without notifying local communities.

Brought the head of Michigan’s environmental regulatory agency on a tour of polluted sites in my district to hear from environmental justice leaders. As racial health disparities have worsened, the agency now wants to roll back clean air standards.
By taking on the fossil fuel industry and its servants in government, I’m fighting for my district and other frontline communities across the country. We must remain committed to tackling environmental justice and climate change: People are dying and we are running out of time.
