Welcoming new colleagues at Headwaters!

This spring, we've welcomed four new colleagues to our team! Join us in officially welcoming Toni Geurts, Emily Scott, Kate Vickery, and Sarah Xiong to the Headwaters community!

Toni Geurts joins the Program team as Headwaters’ Grants Associate. Toni provides essential support to all our community-led grantmaking programs, developing and implementing grant processes to support the needs of Headwaters and our powerful grantees!

Emily Scott joins us as our Director of Finance and Operations! As a self-described spreadsheet and financial education whiz, Emily will ensure that Headwaters’ operations serve as safe stable launching pad for the organization, while pushing the radical edge of finance and operations.

We are also welcoming Kate Vickery as Headwaters’ newest Program Officer! Kate will be stewarding Headwaters’ partnership with Bush Foundation funded initiatives. She is also a Giving Project alum, and we are excited to experience her talents as a colleague!

Finally, Sarah Xiong joins us as our team’s Donor Systems Associate. Sarah makes sure our development department runs smoothly, supporting the administrative needs of the department while also holding data analytics and project management for the team and its work and events!

Now accepting applications for Bush Prize: Minnesota

By now we hope you’ve heard the exciting news that Headwaters is partnering with the Bush Foundation to select 2023’s Bush Prize: Minnesota winners. 

We are currently accepting applications for Bush Prize: Minnesota. The application deadline is Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 5 p.m. 

Bush Prize: Minnesota winners will receive a grant of up to 25% of the organization’s last fiscal year expenses, up to $500,000. Grants are general operating funds that provide maximum flexibility, allowing winners to move resources where they are needed most to support their work. 

Bush Prize: Minnesota winners will be highly valued organizations with a track record of solving problems in their communities. Like all Headwaters grantees, their work will build power and advance justice throughout Minnesota, using inclusive, collaborative and resourceful processes to promote racial and economic equity.

Sam and the Incredible African and American Food Fight Launch Event
Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 4 p.m.

Please join the University of Minnesota Press, North Hennepin Community College, the Legacy Family Center, and In Black Ink in celebrating the publication of author Shannon Gibney's wonderful new picture book Sam and the Incredible African and American Food Fight.

The launch event, which will take place in the Grand Hall at North Hennepin Community College on April 18, 2023 from 4:00-6:00 PM, will include arts activities, games, and complimentary food samples of American and Liberian dishes, in addition to a reading and book signing from the author herself.

STP Rent Stabilization Rights and Opportunities for Change

We’re fast approaching the one year anniversary of St. Paul’s rent stabilization going into effect. But during that time, we’ve seen the majority of our City Council (except for Councilmembers Jalali and Yang) cave to the demands of the real estate lobby, stripping protections from over 20,000 renters.

Join Minnesota Youth Collective, HOME Line, Asian American Organizing Project and others on April 26th from 6:30-8:30pm to learn more about tenants’ rent stabilization rights, hear from renters and organizers about their experiences with the policy, and take renewed action to #KeepStPaulHome for all of our neighbors.

Double Dutch: a night of MUSIC and DIALOGUE

Come experience musical artists you love as they try new things, then share your feedback and insight with them. Double Dutch is an opportunity for you to get close to artists you love and become a part of their process. It’s a sharing and a hang, not a show. Come catch the vibe.

Double Dutch is a three-month limited series of informal and intimate collaborative sharings between program creator Vie Boheme and a different guest performer each month
