Friend,
In one of his first actions as U.S. Senator earlier this year, John Fetterman took a big step to help end the scourge of mass shootings by co-sponsoring a bill to ban assault weapons nationwide. He joined 39 of his colleagues, including Senator Bob Casey, in supporting legislation that will regulate the sale of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. [1]
Thank Sen. Fetterman For Taking Action: [link removed]
Tackling gun violence was one of Senator Fetterman’s campaign promises [2] and it was encouraging to see him deliver on this promise so early in his term.
As we welcome him back to the Hill after his treatment for clinical depression, let’s thank Senator Fetterman for his support and remind him we need champions in D.C. like him to advance federal gun reforms while we focus on lifesaving legislation here in Pennsylvania – including a state-level assault weapons ban.
When Congress and President Bill Clinton enacted an assault weapons ban in 1994, mass shootings went down in the decade that followed, compared to both the decades prior and following. [3] After this ban expired in 2004, gun manufacturers quickly re-started production and sales of assault weapons rose. [4] In fact, it was an assault rifle that was used in the 2018 Pittsburgh shooting that killed 11 people at a Squirrel Hill neighborhood synagogue. [5] Weapons of war have no place in our communities.
Send Senator Fetterman a message both thanking him and welcoming him back so he knows his actions are appreciated and that we need him to keep fighting for gun safety measures: [link removed]
Sincerely,
Adam Garber
