Democrats,
Last week, we recognized the Gay, Lesbian, & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) Day of Silence, a national event where students take a vow of silence for a day to raise awareness about the mistreatment and discrimination of the LGBTQ+ community, especially in educational settings. Right now, Republicans are actively trying to erase LGBTQ+ identities and reel back fundamental rights that let people love freely. Just take a look at the NM GOP’s website, stating their support for a “Constitutional amendment that defines marriage as between one man and one woman.” |
We’ve seen what’s going on in other states. If we don’t stand up for those who are treated with contempt for how they identify or who they decide to love, we are opening the door for greater injustice to be inflicted. This is why, as Democrats, we reaffirm our commitment to stand behind LGBTQ+ communities across the nation and show them that they are never alone.
Please continue supporting our efforts to preserve LGBTQ+ rights in New Mexico, especially when the GOP is fighting tooth and nail to erase their existence. Republican-controlled states have attacked reproductive rights and are going after marriage equality and LGBTQ+ rights however they can. If we want to continue to protect these fundamental freedoms here at home, we have to continue electing Democrats in New Mexico.
