My Favorite TV Show Is Making Me Feel Conflicted About My Divorce

“Ever since my husband and I separated, I’ve been replaying scenes from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in my head,” writes Lauren Davidson. She’s loved the show for years, and it’s kept her company in good times and bad.

But now she’s wondering if it’ll be the same: “I’m a mess, and I’m worried my cheery coping mechanism might be broken,” she writes. There’s a new season out, and “the show is getting to the point in the couples’ lives where they’re through the worst of their divorce and their relationship as co-parents is in a good place. And I find myself wondering: Will I be able to watch Miriam and Joel move on to new relationships with witty banter and the ease of two people who seem to be completely OK with their situation, when I am still absolutely not there?”

She’s working through it in the piece, and it’s got me curious: Is there any piece of pop culture that your divorce totally changed for you? Hit me up: [email protected].

Middle Age Looks Nothing Like It Used To

“Every so often a meme goes around, pointing out that the protagonists of The Golden Girls were women in their fifties (played by women in their sixties) and comparing them to, for instance, Jennifer Lopez doing the Super Bowl halftime show at 50, or the characters in the SATC reboot,” writes Katie Bingham-Smith today. “Nobody can believe Blanche and her roomies were actually supposed to be that young,” she adds — because middle age is totally different now. She’s laying it all out at the link, too: the good, the bad, and the ugly.
