John,
Justice Clarence Thomas betrayed the public’s trust by accepting lavish gifts from billionaire and Republican mega-donor Harlan Crow. And just recently, ProPublica reported in a follow-up piece that Justice Thomas sold real estate here in Georgia to Crow in 2014 — a direct financial transaction that Thomas failed to report.
Hank introduced the legislation to create a code of ethics for Supreme Court justices, and he’s been fighting hard to ensure that right-wing jurists like Clarence Thomas can’t abuse the system for their own personal ends.
But Supreme Court ethics reform is just one part of Hank’s larger plan to ensure that the nation’s highest court is accountable to the American people.
Hank also:
-
Wrote THE bill to expand the number of justices on the Supreme Court. Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell pulled every trick in the book (and invented some new tricks) to pack the court with the ideologues who struck down Roe v Wade. It’s time to unpack the court by rebalancing it and countering the hostile right-wing takeover of our judicial system.
-
Introduced legislation to impose term limits on Supreme Court justices. We need new, conscientious, and independent justices who will use their time on the court to uphold the Constitution — not accompany Republican billionaires for joy rides through the South Pacific on a super yacht.
As the author of these vital bills and the ranking member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Courts, Hank is leading the charge in Congress to stop the rogue court’s assault on Americans’ rights.
