Dear Jack,

Does Mississippi send too many people to prison? For years, we have been told that Mississippi locks up too many people, but is that really true?

Instead of measuring how many criminals we send to jail relative to the size of our population, we ought to consider how many criminals we send to jail relative to the level of criminality.

Rafael Mangual, a best-selling author, is coming to Jackson to explain why sentencing leniency actually harms our state and its residents.

Decarceration is dangerous and policymakers in our state need to understand why.

Mangual will be joined on May 4 by State Auditor Shad White to discuss why Mississippi should support our law enforcement. Tickets are available here ([link removed]) .

Hope to see you there!
