Dear Friend,

As we near the middle of April, I wanted to send you a few updates on what work we have accomplished in Washington, D.C. and around Alabama’s 6th district over the past month:

Demanding action regarding the illegal seizure of Vulcan Materials port in Mexico

In March, the Mexican military seized a Vulcan Materials port in Quintana Roo, Mexico. This action was unprovoked and raises serious concerns about future relations with the Mexican government. Even the Mexican federal court opposed this illegal and provocative taking of Vulcan Materials property. I led the Alabama delegation in sending a letter to the Mexican Ambassador demanding answers and action. Shortly before our meeting with the Mexican Ambassador, the troops were removed. The fact that the entire Alabama delegation stood together put pressure on the Mexican government that prompted them to end their illegal occupation of the Vulcan port. The Mexican government still owes us an explanation and assurances that this will never happen again.

The Trump indictment

The motives for former President Donald Trump being indicted were purely political. This case should have been immediately thrown out by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Instead, Bragg had a former president of the United States paraded through a courtroom. This case is unacceptable and is leading our country down a dark and dangerous path.

Ending Biden’s energy crisis

Home energy costs are skyrocketing, and the Biden Administration is doing nothing to stop it. In fact, they are making it worse by crippling our energy infrastructure. That’s why my fellow House Republicans and I passed H.R. 1, the Lowering Energy Cost Act. This bill takes steps towards making energy costs more affordable for American families and, because there is an energy cost for everything we use or consume, it will help lower the cost of living. For example, it will reduce the burdensome permitting process to build energy infrastructure, like pipelines. Also, it will enable our nation to become energy independent again.

Additionally, this includes my bill H.R. 1023, the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund Repeal. This provision defunds the $27 billion climate ‘slush fund’ that was created to have no oversight or accountability. In addition, the bill included an amendment I offered that would prohibit the Department of Energy from imposing new rules that will eventually ban natural gas range tops and other household use of natural gas. I applaud the work of my colleagues on both the Energy & Commerce Committee, the Natural Resources Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for putting together this comprehensive American energy bill. I call on the Senate to take it up immediately.

Protecting Americans from the Chinese Communist Party

When Republicans entered the House majority, we promised to keep our nation safe. One way we are keeping our promise is by investigating the social media app TikTok and its ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Millions of Americans have downloaded this app, but there are serious concerns over the CCP using this app as a surveillance tool. I questioned the CEO of TikTok during last week’s hearing and he refused to answer many of my questions. I assure you that my colleagues and I will continue to investigate this app and shine the light on its connection to the CCP.

Shedding light on the crimes of the Biden family

Evidence is accumulating against the Biden family to show they financially benefitted from companies tied to the Chinese Communist Party. This is unacceptable. My colleagues and I on the House Committee of Oversight and Accountability will investigate the latest round of allegations of the Biden family’s financial ties to the CCP.

Around Alabama’s 6th District

Hoover Rotary Club

I appreciated the invitation to speak to the members of the Hoover Rotary Club and Club President Bob Arnwine. It’s always a pleasure meeting with business leaders in the sixth district.

Helena Middle School

It is always a privilege to be invited to speak with students in the district. Thanks to Helena Middle School and social studies teacher Sabrina Cuadra for inviting me to come speak to their 7th grade class earlier this month.

University of Montevallo

I enjoyed my visit to the University of Montevallo and speaking to students in the international business class that is taught by Columbiana Mayor David Mitchell. Special thanks to Mayor Mitchell for his invitation and to President John Stewart, Mayor Rusty Nix, and the faculty and staff of the business school.

Bill Noble Athletic Park

Congratulations to the city of Gardendale for the opening of the new Bill Noble Athletic Park. Thanks to Mayor Stan Hogeland for inviting me to tour the park.

American Village

It’s always great to stop by the American Village in Montevallo. Earlier this month, CEO Alan Miller invited me to see the new construction and visit with students touring the campus. American Village is not only a treasure for the 6th District, it is a national treasure. Thousands of students from as far away as Oklahoma have visited.

Monthly Mayors Breakfast

My staff and I enjoy visiting with mayors from across this district to learn about what is happening and how we can better serve our constituents. Thanks to all of the 6th district mayors that attended our lunch earlier this month, and special thanks to the city of Hoover and Mayor Frank Brocato for hosting us.

Spire Energy Company

I had the pleasure of meeting employees and seeing the operations at the Spire Energy’s liquified natural gas plant in Pinson a few weeks ago. Special thanks to Kyle Rogers and Todd Garrison for showing me around.

Birmingham VA Medical Center

It was great to be at the 70th Anniversary of the Birmingham VA Medical Center. We celebrated the impact the facility has made in our community for our veterans. Special thanks to Tanya Bradsher, Chief of Staff for Veterans Affairs and Dr. Ladi Kukoyi, Executive Director of BCAMC.
