People power is the only way to stand up to the GOP

Hi john,

There’s been a torrent of news this month, and I've been reflecting on everything that has unfolded. So as I get back to Washington after a productive two weeks of being back home in Minnesota, I want to share some important takeaways:

  1. Don’t mess with the Midwest. Last week, progressive Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Janet Protasiewicz defeated a right-wing candidate by 11 points, delivering a blow to MAGA Republican’s anti-abortion, gerrymandering, voter-suppression and union-busting agenda. It’s a win for all of us, and I’m proud of this team’s critical support in that race.

  2. The Supreme Court is broken. Bombshell reporting from ProPublica revealed that Justice Clarence Thomas has secretly accepted luxury trips from a billionaire GOP donor and even sold him property, violating federal disclosure laws and creating clear conflicts of interest. It proves what we’ve suspected all along: The conservative majority on the Supreme Court is beholden to right-wing corporate interests and billionaires. The constitutional remedy is simple — expand the Court.

  3. Organize everywhere. Two Black Democratic lawmakers, Justin Jones and Justin Pearson, have been reinstated after the Republican-led Tennessee State Legislature voted to expel Jones and Pearson for peacefully protesting in support of gun reform. A white legislator who also participated in the protest was not expelled. Their vote was un-democratic. It was racist. And it illustrates how important it is to organize for justice and change everywhere, not just in states political pundits deem important.

  4. Republicans want to ban abortion nationwide by any means necessary. Trump-appointed judge and right-wing ideologue Matthew Kacsmaryk is attempting to force the FDA to withdraw a 20-year-old approval for the medication abortion drug mifepristone. Meanwhile, Ron DeSantis has signed a 6-week abortion ban in Florida. These moves are deeply unpopular, and even worse, puts women’s lives at risk. Despite that, the GOP is forging ahead with their extreme, draconian agenda.

john, the GOP is brazenly trying everything they can to hold onto power, and they’re not going to stop.

The only way we can stand up to the extreme MAGA agenda is through people power. That’s where you come in, john. Will you chip in $10 to support our organizing work and make our movement more powerful?
