Dear PFAW Member –
After the role Facebook played in spreading disinformation in the 2016 and 2018 elections, we need to call on the company to fight the spread of demonstrably false information. With the 2020 election in full swing, we need Facebook to take action-- our democracy is at stake.
Online disinformation that is designed to erode the truth is a serious challenge to our democracy. Protecting intentionally false information isn’t championing free speech, it’s prioritizing paid advertisements over free and fair elections.
American democracy cannot afford another election that is deeply polluted by deceptive information spread on online platforms. It is critical that Facebook reverse its policy on political advertising and reject ads that feature manifestly false content.
Demand that Facebook ban intentionally deceitful paid advertising>>
The micro-targeting of inaccurate ads distorts our national political debate and leaves users unable to discern facts and truth, threatening our democracy.
This has gone on for too long.
