John,

Courier Newsroom is getting attention from
an unlikely source…

Joe Rogan.

In case you don’t know: Rogan’s podcast is one of the most popular in the
country. Boosted by his rumored $200 million dollar deal with Spotify, his
show regularly gets tens of millions of listeners per episode.

Rogan’s influence over his audience is powerful. His personal views, his
guests, and his politics all have serious, real world implications.

You might remember last year’s firestorm over Rogan spreading
misinformation about COVID. The controversy blew up when musician Neil
Young took his music off of Spotify to protest Rogan’s questioning of the
safety of vaccines and the (completely untrue) virtues of Ivermectin as
cure for the virus.

That’s why when we saw this clip of Rogan making fun of Courier’s mission
to stop the spread of misinformation during a recent show, we weren’t the
least bit surprised:

[ [link removed] ]If Joe Rogan is threatened by us, we must be doing something right. If
you believe in our mission to hold bad actors like Rogan accountable and
stop the spread of bad information, will you chip in $5
today?

When it comes to the spread of misinformation, bad actors like Rogan are
allergic to accountability. That’s what makes him so dangerous.

Let’s be clear: Rogan’s attack isn’t an insult, it’s a sign that the
momentum behind Courier Newsroom and our mission are gathering steam.

Our local teams in 8 battleground states use quality, local reporting to
combat the spread of disinformation in-real time. With your support, they
can keep doing their jobs, growing their audiences, and expand their
operations into communities and online spaces where factual, local
journalism is non-existent.

[ [link removed] ]We can win the fight against misinformation, but it’s going to take all
of us pitching in and doing our part whenever we can. That’s why we’re
setting a goal to raise $6,500 by midnight so we can hire more
journalists, boost our stories, and grow our reach. Will you join us in
the fight against bad information by chipping in $5?
