Hello, Friend:

For those who can’t make the trip to Washington, D.C., next weekend to participate in our inaugural Summit for Religious Freedom in person, there’s an impressive virtual program of curated sessions you can still participate in from the comfort of your home, local coffee shop or anywhere with an internet connection.

Don’t miss out on SRF – register now to join us virtually on April 22-23: [link removed]

SRF programming that’s available virtually includes:

— Author and “Straight White American Jesus” podcast co-host Dr. Bradley Onishi, together with Andrew L. Seidel from AU and the Rev. Naomi Washington-Leapheart of Villanova University, will connect Christian Nationalist attempts to restrict voting rights and reproductive rights and institute Christian supremacy in the public square.

— Author Katherine Stewart will be joined by AU President and CEO Rachel Laser and the Rev. Traci Blackmon, a plaintiff in our Missouri abortion ban lawsuit, to discuss the rise of recent attacks on abortion and gender equality, and how fighting for church-state separation is part of the solution.

— Kierra Johnson, the executive director of the National LGBTQ Task Force, along with the Rev. Alex McNeill, a member of AU’s Faith Advisory Council, and former AU Youth Organizing Fellow Ranen Miao will shed light on the coordinated attacks on the LGBTQ+ community, especially on those who are transgender.

— Gabi Hybel from AU and Sunu Chandy of the National Women's Law Center will lead a panel on the “Ministerial Exception,” a little-known legal doctrine that threatens to strip millions of workers of their rights by justifying unlawful discrimination and harassment in the workplace.

— Hannah Santos and David Callaway from the Freedom Forum and the Rev. Doug Avilesbernal from the Evergreen Baptist Association of American Baptist Churches will provide an introduction to religious literacy and will offer concrete skills to talk about religion in a nuanced, non-devotional way.

— Nik Nartowicz from AU, along with Brittany Williams from American Atheists and Jeff Graham from Georgia Equality, will outline some of the most troubling bills attacking religious freedom that have been introduced in state legislatures this year.
