Florida Takes Action to Protect Life |
Life wins: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis last week signed the Heartbeat Protection Act, which prohibits doctors from knowingly performing an abortion on a baby who has a detectable heartbeat. Karen Jaroch, Heritage Action’s Florida state director, was on hand for the signing ceremony (pictured above).
- Since the Dobbs decision last year, states across the country have responded to the will of the people and are saving thousands of unborn lives every day.
Roger Severino, Heritage’s vice president of domestic policy, applauded the decision:
- “The life movement is overjoyed to see Florida and Gov. Ron DeSantis defend mothers and babies. Protections for life at heartbeat or better is now a national trend that should be reflected by our national leaders in Congress and by every candidate running for president,” he said.
DeSantis is headlining Heritage’s 50th anniversary Leadership Summit taking place this week. He speaks Friday morning. Learn more here.

The False Promise of Drug Legalization Exposed |
Dope: A big reason for legalizing pot was to cut down on crime. How's that worked out?
- In an extensive report, Rumpel senior legal research fellow Paul Larkin shows how the public was bamboozled.
- In some states, the illegal drug market is bigger than the legitimate one, and violence has worsened. "Only a fool would believe that something different would occur if we continued to legalize cannabis," he writes.

Biden’s EV Quotas Will Take Away Our Freedom and Enrich China |

Zero to 60: In 2022, electric vehicles (EVs) made up fewer than 6% of new car sales. A Biden administration rule could require that 67% of new cars sold be EVs by 2032.
- This rule would make cars more expensive and kill American jobs “while lining the pockets of Chinese battery manufacturers,” writes Diana Furchtgott-Roth, director of the Center for Energy, Climate, and Environment.

Homeland Security Is Still Engaging in Censorship |
Spying: After much blowback, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) disbanded its infamous Disinformation Governance Board. But it’s still in the censorship game, sub rosa.
- “Recent events point to a deliberate attempt to cover up the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s past and rebrand its mission,” writes Erin Dwinell, senior research associate with Heritage’s Border Security and Immigration Center.
