House Republicans wrestling with how to form a budget plan are weighing whether to extend their outlook from ten to 15 years to make spending cuts easier — and whether to create a panel to explore changes to Social Security and Medicare.

Republicans have publicly denied their intent to include Social Security and Medicare in their ransom package to prevent economic default. But this tracks with what they were saying publicly before last year’s midterm election. Bad ideas have a way of coming back in this town.

This is a red alert. We need to mobilize to kill this bad idea AGAIN. Can you rush $7 to save Social Security and Medicare from Republican hostage-takers?
