John,
After years of activism and hearing from members of Congress like me, President Biden announced that he would pardon federal marijuana convictions. It's been time to do what is right!
But people still have to apply for pardons, an unnecessary and time-consuming barrier to justice. That’s why the federal government must implement automatic expungement of cannabis-related criminal records.
This is an urgent racial justice issue: Despite similar use rates, Black and brown people are disproportionately arrested and convicted related to cannabis use. When this happens, people face potential loss of employment, housing, voting rights, professional licensing, and student aid.
Add your name today to tell Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Department of Justice to AUTOMATE pardons for cannabis possession.
Our allies are delivering these petitions in the next few days, on 4/20. So please sign and share this email with your friends.
Let’s also keep pushing to legalize cannabis nationwide and to free the thousands of U.S. residents who still remain incarcerated due to racist and unjust drug policies.
Thank you for being by my side in the fight for justice,
Rashida
